hey guys
some of you may recall i asked for laptop advice on here one time. well, i'm getting a netbook now, primarily for my computer science classes, and i wanted to share the specs of the one i'm looking at. also i wanted to see if any of you have experience with netbooks and using them primarily with comp sci type stuff and what your suggestions might be as to what netbook to buy.
so here's what i'm going for right now:
Dell Inspiron Mini 10v $314 (+ additional education discount my mom is getting with it bc she works for the school board )
--------------
System Color: Obsidian Black
Processor: Intel Atom Processor N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K cache)
Operating System: Ubuntu Linux
LCD Panel: 10.1" Widescreen Display (1024x600)
Hardware Support Services: 1 Yr Ltd Warranty, 1 Yr Mail-in Service, and 1 Yr Tech Support
Video Card: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950
Memory: 1GB DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive: 160GB, 2.5inch, 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Battery Options: 56WHr Lithium-Ion Battery (6-cell)
Wireless: Wireless 802.11g (1397) Mini Card
Documentation/Disks: Integrated 1.3M Pixel Webcam
Mobile Broadband: No Mobile Broadband Selected
-------------------
everything is standard except the battery which i upgraded from a 3-cell to a 6-cell.
and i'm fine with not having any mobile broadband with it because i can just tether my phone to it and use my unlimited data plan.
also, i upgraded the ram on my laptop a few monts ago. i still have one of the 1GB chips i swapped out of it. the other 1GB chip my dad ended up being able to fit into his work laptop. so if i need more ram i can try that. and if its not the right pin size then i can definitely get another 1GB chip for cheaper than the $50 dell is asking for it.
oh and as for ports it has a standard ethernet port, 3 usb ports, and a video monitor port (and of course the power port... duh...).
sooooo any of you fellow computer geeks think this would be a safe buy or should i go with a different brand/os/specs?
