I think it's the DivX player that's got the trojan in it, and not the Codecs which are what I have. But I think it should be OK depending on where you get it from.

don't DL stupid crap, and don't go to stupid websites and you'll have no problems
i've had this comp for a year now (warranty expires in a few days i think) and 3 nights ago i ran the first virus scan ever on it. cause Slowride was talking about it and i said i've never had one etc. so i was like well let's see.. i did, and 1 year, no viruses.
pay attention to what you are doing, where you are going, and what you DL.. and you don't have to waste your system resources on virus scanners at all.
but thats just me. i've had comps my whole life and i've never had a virus on any. (besides the ones i've choosen to get, but thats a different subject)

well, I'm trying to learn a few skills and mostly don't know which software to get. Wouldn't want to regret buying something that can be done by some free software that's available out there, just trying to see if anyone knows how and where to get them, that's all As for the stupid crap that I download, honestly I don't do that at all... because I'm paranoid, lol I only download stuff that people have tried and know it is safe content. I don't go to stupid websites either (casino, betting, porn, etc) because that's not how I roll

I bet on porn casinos. You know, casinos where they play with porn cards and stuff. It's very amusing. I own about 4 casinos now =D

sorry for this very very late reply, lol And I appreciate you guys trying to help me figure out what's wrong with my weak pc. It's gotten so bad that it says "windows has encountered error and must stop" on startup so I was without a pc for months. I'm using a laptop now.
I'm using Windows XP. The PC restarts itself when i try to turn it on and then the blue error screen comes up. I've tried F8 and then starting in Safe Mode, I tried disconnecting all the CDROM and Floppy drivers, starting Windows with the latest known safe configuration but nothing seems to work, it always end up with the blue screen.

If you have ur windows disks you can try a recovery. It uninstalls all your programs but leaves files intact. It works well enough to derail most viruses so you can back up your files then do a clean wipe.

Hey and welcome back (kinda ) phanta. I think its most likely hardware related. My favorites: RAM/Harddisk. Ram can mostly be checked pretty easy. I hope you know how to find out what are you RAM-Slots . Most Computers have two pieces RAM onboard to be able to use Dual-channel. Simply get one out of the case and try your luck. If same prob change the RAMs and try the other. Important: Computers need RAMs to be equippent in Slot1 (mostly the one thats nearest to your CPU socket). Else the System wont start up at all. If RAM wasnt the problem check your Harddisk. Mostly its just a logical error (no physical defect). You need a working system to fix that or a windows 2k CD. If you have a USB Harddisk chassis build the disk in there and plug it in the Laptop. Go to workspace, rightclick on the USB harddisk (removable device) and click properties. Chose Extras-tab and enable the error-check (the most upper option). Enable both boxes and run it (maybe you needa close programs that might access the drive). If you have a Windows 2k CD insert it on bootup and boot from it. You needa open the repair-console (at some point you needa press K - dunno the exact menu tho xD). When you enteres the repair console type in "chkdsk c: /f /r" and type enter. This might take like 30 mins. If this doesnt help try to unplug all unnecessary PCI-cards/USB-devices and try boot again. Maybe a driver from these causes error on bootup. If this doesnt help insert your OS-CD and do a repair installation. All your files will remain on the system (no full installation, but REPAIR-INSTALLATION!). To do so you pretend to want installing a new windows. When you accept license (F8 key) windows will search for older versions and hopefully find your windows. It will ask then if you wanna repair. Say yes and proceed. Advantage: All your data will stay alive - just Windows Files and drivers will be deleted and reinstalled. Software will be reimplemented after installation. So you needa reinstall hardware-specific drivers after repair-installation but wont lose your files/data. This has the disadvantage, that if your problem is caused by a virus/malware, it will be reinstalled on repair-installation. If problem stays the same after repair-installation, you might need to do a complete new install (with formatting disk - so better plug the drive on another system to save the files first). If this fails too, your harddisk/mainboard/CPU is most likely damaged and you need a new one. Good luck and have fun lol xD

You could also email me a couple of the minidump files that are created after a blue screen occurs and I can see if there is any good indication in there as to what may be causing the problem. As was said, blue screens are often very cryptic and can be caused by many different things. Assuming your system is set to dump its memory , which as I recall is the default, then you should be able to find these in c:\windows\minidump. Just a thought, at any rate good luck as BSODs are never easy.
