LOL hahaha ummmm well comp sci major tell u the truth all my comp sci major friend just spends countless hours in the lab cause the lab comps are quicker and ever thing is on it.... but iono ur choice haha theone is very knowledgeable xDDD but iono the choices ur provided is high end "gaming" laptops comp sci wont' really needa any of that truthfully speaking XD. maybe get a really high end desktop? and spend less on a laptop going for somethink like a thinkpad or something? I know their ugly and doesn't have flashly lights but it works isn't super expensive and its very very durable. xD
O and if your deciding to get a desktop build it urself it isn't hard ^____^ its basicly matching up the colors now lol xD theone prob can teach u.... xD
o ya and the 3d mark scores that theone mentioned yes it tells which GPU is the best and fastest and so on.... but from my experience it seriously doesn't matter that much... I always got midrange board and cards and scores can't compare to the high end but i still can play what ever i want. and truth be told by the time the "new" games comes out and my comp can't handle them anymore a new generation is out. i'm college student hehe XP kinda poor so i go with what is most efficient ^^

o ya healer i forgot to mention from my experience with countless friends and stuff laptops start dying and having problems if your on it excessively and game heavily on it or something, cause just because of its compact style it easily over heats.
hehe and truthfully if i had a laptop like that i can game on and so i, i seriously doubt i'll ever hear my profs lecturing anymore XDDDD, everyone that does bring a laptop to class ends up chatting on it or watching movies and what not, and eventually just stops goin to class or stops dragging it around.
also don't forget that you really do have to carry that around everywhere you go. iono where ur planning to go college but for where i go... if i had to carry a 17" something around and maybe a 4-5lb laptop in my backpack i would be tired and pissed lol xD. wayyy to much walkin and most backpacks don't fit it so u needa get a special backpack.... or a carrying case xD
for "me" i like desktop for most stuff less expensive for good performance, only prob no mobility so if i ever do get a laptop i would maybe even settle for a 14" cause its really portable and battery life on it is generally really nice so it enables me to go anywhere giving me true mobility vs going to somewhere where i "must" have a outlet.

Aight, aight, I get where you guys are pointin at. Smaller more portable laptop with longer lifespan on battery. I'll be checkin out the smaller ones today and tomorrow then. Thank you guys for all the great advice you've given me ^^ I'll just get a nice desktop in a few years when I get an apartment with my friends instead of living in the dorms. You guys are right, I'll get too distracted if I had a gaming oriented laptop.

Umm, if you ask me... do this: get a cheap $600 laptop just in case you need it and spend the remainder of what you want on a desktop. Laptops don't take up much space, so store it under your bed or something when you won't be using it and put your desktop on your desk. Most university campuses run some kind of UNIX on their computers anyway so you'll have to ssh onto their servers anyway, which is a pain from a windows or mac computer. Even so, it's for school, not a software company. I can guarantee you that anything you write at a university as an undergrad is not going to be taxing on your computer. So laptops are for remote internet and word processing, maybe taking notes. That's about it.
